The Three Musafirs
ALIX
My name is Alix, and I'm from the gorgeous state of Kentucky! I've been studying Arabic & Islamic Studies, and International Relations with a focus on Africa & the Middle East for the last three years. I will be spending my senior year, along with my two good friends Rob & Leah, studying and working in Amman.
Going to Jordan last summer was the first time I'd left the U.S. or even been on a plane. The experiences I had inspired an urgent need to continue my travels, as well as an interest in Arabic dialects.
I'm looking forward to spending quality time learning Shami and MSA; eating unhealthy amounts of falafel, hummus, and baba ganoush; seeing old friends and making new ones; and exploring more of Amman, Jordan, and the Middle East.

This fall I'll be taking Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) classes 4 hours a day Sunday-Thursday at the University of Jordan Language Center. I will also be interning at the Center for Strategic Studies, which is located on the UJ campus as well. Depending on the work load, I may opt to add some teaching into my schedule as well!
My goals for this year are to be able to discuss politics fluidly in Arabic, to make friends everywhere I go, to be open and welcoming to all lessons, ideas, and people that I come across, and to create something out of this experience that will help me in my career and preserve the incredible memories I'll be making.
